| Özet |
| The aim of the study was to examine the relationship among sports coaches’ perceived leadership behaviours, athletes’ communication skills and satisfaction of athletes’ basic psychological needs. 250 athletes completed Leadership Scale for Sport, Basic Psychological Needs Scale and The Communication Skills Evaluation Scale. Results revealed that there was a significance difference between genders regarding communication skills. A negative significant correlation was observed between need for relatedness and positive feedback behaviour, need for competence and positive feedback behaviour, need for competence and social support behaviour, need for competence and training and instruction behaviour. A positive significant correlation was observed between need for competence and autocratic behaviour, need for autonomy and autocratic behaviour. Positive feedback, social support and training and instruction behaviours of coaches were found to be positively and significantly correlated with communication skills of athletes. Athletes’ basic psychological needs seemed to be negatively and significantly correlated with their communication skills. Results supported the concepts of Self Determination Theory. |
