Özet
This article examines an Urartian castle which is located on Kapıkaya village inTortum, Erzurum, which is an important place in North-eastern Anatolia. The article, primarily,deals with the physical and political condition of the place where the castle during the ancientperiods. Then, in terms of ancient history, the situation of the castle during Urartian Period whenit the only power in the Eastern Anatolia between 9th and 6th centuries B.C. was studied. Thestudy examines the localisation of Kapıkaya, which was an important castle for Urartian inopening to the north. In addition, the archaeological evidence that we found during the surfaceexaminations we conducted shows the importance of the castle for the Urartian to spread to theregion. Because the amount of the materials that will help us learn about Urartian existence in thearea with all aspects is unfortunately not enough. However, with the help of the conducted
