Parents' Family-Centered Care Perception and Investigating Factors Affecting Such Perception

| Objectives: This study aimed to examine the perception of family-centered care (FCC) and the factors affect- ing this perception from the perspective of the parents. Methods: The study design used is descriptive and cross-sectional. The study was carried out in two public hospitals in Bursa and Yalova city centres in Turkey. The universe of the study consists of 240 families whose 0–18-year-old child is hospitalized and stays with the child for at least 3 days between the specified dates. Results: A total of 240 parents participated in the study and 177 (73.8%) were women. The median value of significance was 26.0 (20.0-34.0) in hospitalized girls and was 28.0 (22.0-33.0) in hospitalized boys (p=0.019). The median value of significance dimension for children with chronic disease was 28.0 (22.0-31.0) and 28.0 (20.0-34.0) for those without chronic disease; in the consistency dimension, the median value of children with chronic disease was 22.0 (17.0-27.0) and 24.0 (14.0-31.0) of children without chronic disease (p=0.049 and p<0.001, respectively). Matching percentage of all items in the scale changes between 68.3-80.5%. Conclusion: It was determined that nurses make parents feel that the care given to their children is good, but they need to be more supportive as provided to make the parents feel an important place in the care of the child. When FCC is applied in hospitals, the satisfaction level of the child, family, and nurse will increase. |
