| Özet |
| Interstate wars, ethnic conflicts, civil conflicts, repressive and authoritarian regimes, natural disasters, and environmental problems are the main causes of refugee movements. Today, millions of people are forced to leave their country due to war, ethnic conflict, authoritarian regimes, violations of human rights. These migration movements are tragedies and they threaten national, regional, and international security (Türkoğlu, 2011). The issue of international migration has begun to continuously emerge on agendas, especially since the last quarter of the twentieth century. Political instability, violations of human rights, repressive regimes, civil wars, ethnic conflicts, lack of labor force demand, economic problems, inadequate geographical conditions, and fear for safety of life are among the reasons for migration. People are migrating to Western countries that need cheap labor, at the cost of neglecting their lives. Policies of Western countries on migration include having a detailed perspective that can balance human concerns with economic concerns, realization of a fair system of equality of citizens of third countries with those of their citizens, establishment of partnerships that can help source countries, establishment of a common asylum policy adhering to the Geneva Convention and other international treaties (Gençler, 2005). |
